Our forefathers in Delaware: [William Jackson, grandfather of Alexander]
It is said that Wm and Thomas* Jackson brothers emigrated from England*. Said Wm settled in the forest Murderkill Hundred, Kent Co. Del. upon a tract of land by him located by virtue of a warrant to him granted bearing date the 17 of April 1737 and lived and died on the same.
*Another account says Ireland in place of England.
He left a will dated March 23, 1746. In his will he named to survive him Richard by his first wife and by his second wife Thomas, Mary, James, William and Joseph (four sons & one daughter).
The said Wm Jackson Sen bequeathed in his will his land to (his second-eldest son by his second wife named) Thomas and James. But being a deficiency in the clerk it was only left to James & he died in his minority. Then Mary, Wm, Joseph & Richard claimed an equal part with Thomas being James' share of half. Caused a dispute.
It was finally agreed upon by Thomas releasing to them & they to him. But Wm Manlove by purchase became the owner of Mary, Joseph & Richard's shares, therefore Manlove & Wm Jackson released to Thomas & Thomas to Manlove & Wm J. by proper lines.
The said last named Thomas J son of the first Wm J administered on the estate of his Father Wm J by letters of administration dated June 1, 1748, inventoried Feb 1, 1748 and sold June 11, 1748. The said Thomas Jackson remained the owner of said land and died on the same Sept 23, 1791 supposed to be 70 years old.
*Thomas Jackson the first above named some place in the State of Virginia no more is known of him.
William Jackson (the first above named) settled in the State of Del as aforesaid. Thomas Jackson was his son and Alexander Jackson his grandson and my Father.
